Chocolate Peppermint Trifle in a Mason Jar

With a pinch of merriment and a dash of delight, this darling dessert served in cute mason jars will fill your families hearts with Christmas cheer!
Ingredients

Six wide mouthed medium Mason Jars

1 Box Chocolate Peppermint Cupcake (save the frosting for another use)

Prepare cupcakes as directed, however use a lightly greased 9” cake pan (instead of making cupcakes). Bake at 350 degrees for about 35 minutes until a cake tester inserted in the center of the cake comes out clean.

Chocolate Liqueur Syrup (optional - but delicious) or substitute premade chocolate syrup

You Will Need: 1/4 cup sugar, 1/4 cup water, 1/3 cup chocolate flavored liqueur (such as Godiva).

Directions
Make The Syrup
Bring the sugar and water to a boil in a small saucepan, stirring until sugar has dissolved. Let cool completely. Stir in liqueur. Set aside.
Additional ingredients needed for assembly: Freshly made whipped cream (or premade), Crushed peppermint candies
Assemble The Cakes
Layer the cake in each jar: start with cake pieces, drizzle with a little syrup, dollop a little whipped cream on top, sprinkle with some crushed candies….and….repeat. End with whipped cream and garnish with crushed candies. HOHOHO...Merry Christmas!
